Beiersdorf, the maker of Nivea, has announced that its former CEO and long-time board member Hans-Otto Wöbcke has died at the age of 87.
The company says that Wöbcke played a 'significant role' in shaping the development of Beiersdorf for over 30 years. Starting in the company in 1971, he became a member of the board in 1974, and CEO in 1989, before retiring in 1994.
Important Figure
"In Hans-Otto Wöbcke, Beiersdorf is not just losing an important figure, but also a special human who with passion, vision and energy set the right course for the successful development of the company,” said Dr. Reinhard Pöllath, chairman of the company's supervisory board.
“Throughout his life Hans-Otto Wöbcke was closely connected to Beiersdorf. He recognised the great potential of our Nivea brand and began its successful expansion into an umbrella brand. For this he deserves our sincere thanks and recognition."
