The Chinese state-owned firm Bright Food has agreed to buy a majority stake in Italian olive oil producer Salov.
The Chinese company already controls the cereal firm Weetabix.
With its headquarters in Tuscany, Salov produces olive oil under the Sagra and Filippo Berio brands.
The products are sold in more than 60 countries around the globe.
Bright Food subsidiary Shanghai Yimin No. 1 Foods (Group) Co. reached the agreement with Salov's owners, the Fontana family.
It will now take a majority stake in the manufacturing firm.
The financial side of the agreement was not released.
The acquisition was part of the internationalisation advance of Bright Food, said the company in a statement.
Bright Food will boost Salov's production and sales following the acquisition, the statement said.
In 2012, Bright paid $1.94 billion for a 60 per cent stake in Weetabix.
