Italian tomato producer Cirio has seen its market share in France grow in value by 35% and in volume by 40% in the past year.
The data comes from the latest IRI report, which highlights the increased consumption of authentic Italian tomato products by French consumers.
The Cirio tomato brand is owned by the Conserve Italia cooperative, and is distributed in France through Conserves France.
After Italy and Spain, France is the third largest market for Conserve Italia in terms of turnover. Last year the group earned around €74 million in France and Belgium alone, an increase of 13% year-on-year.
Product Innovations
According to the general manager of Conserve Italia and president of Conserves France, Pier Paolo Rosetti, the company will continue to focus product innovations such as its ready-made sauces and the new Bio line of peeled tomatoes, passata and pulp.
The Cirio brand also produces corn, peas, green beans and tomato at its French plant in Saint Sylvestre sur Lot for distribution in the main national retail outlets.
In addition, the Tarascon plant produces a wide range vegetable products which are marketed under the brand Barbier Dauphin - one of the oldest French brands in the category of ready-made dishes - and private label brands.
