Italian agri-food company Conserve Italia has signed a commercial agreement with Colavita for the distribution of Cirio canned tomato in the USA.
Colavita USA is a leading distributor of Italian extra virgin olive oil in the US, with widespread distribution throughout North America and two offices in New Jersey and California.
Currently the turnover of Conserve Italia in North America is approximately €1 million, of which €500,000 is related to the Cirio brand, with growth of +50% in two years.
The agreement with Colavita aims to overcome a major obstacle that until now has acted as a brake in the US market: the extreme fragmentation of the retail network across the various states.
The pre-conditions for a strong increase in revenues are there, as the USA is among the top five importers of tomato in the world, despite also being the largest manufacturer with an average of 12 million tons.
