Spanish food company Ebro Foods has enlarged its offering of organic SKUs through the acquisition of organic food firm Vegetalia.
The takeover was effected through the firm’s French subsidiary Alimentation Santé for the price of €15 million. This does not include Vegetalia’s range of restaurants in Spain.
Vegetalia, based in Barcelona, had a 2016 turnover of €11.5 million, and sells around 1,500 organic food SKUs annually. This encompasses fresh produce, dry foods and drink products. The company is also a 'pioneer' in manufacturing vegetable protein.
It has about 70 hectares of land used for farming organic crops.
Ebro said, ‘With this acquisition, Ebro Foods increases its market share in organic food. Moreover, this is an excellent complement to the business currently operated by the group in France after buying up Celnat.’
