Representatives from Edeka and Coca-Cola were invited by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to an exchange of ideas about improving integration of immigrants into German society.
The Chancellor also invited representatives from Deutsche Telekom and Postbank to meet with Deutschlandstiftung Integration (DSI), a foundation that helps migrants integrate successfully into German society.
The Chancellor, who is a patron of DSI, said that “Deutschlandstiftung Integration and its partners have proved […] that civic initiatives contribute significantly to the success of integration in Germany.”
Integration Initiatives
DSI elected former President of Germany Christian Wulff as its new chair of its board. The foundation also signed a cooperation agreement with the START-Stiftung, a foundation that promotes the integration of young migrants with educational scholarships.
“In an increasingly multiethnic, multireligious, and multicultural society, the importance of integration will increase further," said Wulff.
“That’s why a close collaboration between politics, business, media and science […] is a fundamental prerequisite to strengthen the cohesion of our society.”
Maria Boehmer, chair of trustees for START and Germany's Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that now it is more important than ever to ensure young and talented immigrants realise their full potential.
Over the coming year, the two foundations plan to increase their common work, and bring the experiences and success stories of supported young migrants closer to the public.
