Expoalimentaria 2018, which took place at the Jockey Exhibition Centre in Peru from 26 to 28 September, has been deemed a massive success by the organisers, ADEX.
The tenth edition of the show, which was spread over 29,000 square metres and featured five main segments, closed around $850 million worth of deals (€739 million) during the three days, which is 3,200% higher than at the first hosting of the event, in 2009.
Some 25 countries participated in this year's fair, including Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, China, Greece, Malaysia, Italy and others, indicating the level to which Expoalimentaria is now an increasingly international event. In addition, the show welcomed more than 4,000 international visitors and 2,500 international buyers from the five continents.
Overall, 40,000 visitors attended Expoalimentaria 2018, while more than 500 national and international companies exhibited at the event, of which 55% have participated in more than one edition.
More than 1,300 varieties of products were presented, with Peruvian specialties such as cocoa, coffee, blueberries, avocado, prawns, asparagus, citrus, artichoke, quinoa, pepper, maca, among others.
Expoalimentaria 2018 also saw the return of the Innovation Contest, first launched in 2010, which rewards creativity and innovation in the development of new products. This year, 15 finalists were awarded on the last day of the event, across six categories.
Expoalimentaria 2018 was organised by ADEX with the support of Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Promperú, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
