Pork product J’aime, created by Fleury Michon and animal feed producer Groupe Avril, has placed first position in a French national taste and quality assessment.
J'aime is a high-end product, which is made from GMO-free livestock that live in high-welfare conditions. The animals themselves are raised by the firm Hypor Maxter, which feeds them with linseed, according to ThePigSite.com.
Hypor’s general manager for France, Julien Briant, explained, “To produce a quality product, like J’aime, meat must have a good pH level and a sufficient level of backfat.
“It is important for the meat to have a sufficient amount of fat, and also for it to be lean for the consumer. Pork producers receive 6.30 euros more over the standard market price to produce pigs that qualify for J’aime.”
