Alimentaria 2016 takes place this week at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via venue in Spain, running from today, 25 April to Thursday, 28 April.
Now in its 40th year, the latest edition of Alimentaria is set to welcome 140,000 visitors, and play host to more than 10,000 business meetings between exhibitors and buyers.
This year, Alimentaria has a revamped structure, designed to highlight the synergies between different sectors of the food industry, and reveal new market trends.
The trade fair offering this year will again include wine and spirits show, Intervin, as well as Intercarn for meat and meat products, Restaurama for the restaurant sector, and Interlact, which focuses on milk and dairy products.
This year will also introduce Multiple Foods, which organisers describe as 'the most cross-cutting of all the fairs that brings together virtually half of the companies taking part in the show, grouped by specialist area'.
Included here will the Spanish autonomous regions, such as Catalonia, under the Lands of Spain banner, and the international pavilions, as well as growing market sectors such as Healthy Foods, Fine Foods, Mediterranean Foods, Snacks, and Biscuits & Confectionery. It will also have a Premium zone made up of a dozen select firms related to haute cuisine.
Another new feature is the inclusion of drinks and frozen food manufacturers in the Restaurama segment.
As one of this year’s key themes is gastronomy, the event will also benefit from the presence of top Spanish chefs such as Joan Roca and Angel León, as well as emerging and promising talents like Ana Merino, Beatriz Sotelo, Eduard Xatruch and Oriol Castro
Meanwhile, the Federación Española de Industrias y Bebidas will host a series Food & Drinks Business Meetings, which will allow for direct, face-to-face contact between businesses and international buyers from more than 40 different countries.
