The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), the global network serving shopping and consumer needs, has published the results of its latest report, which portrays industry progress in improving health and wellness for consumers worldwide.
With approximately 38 million people dying each year from non-communicable illnesses that are very often diet-related, the report shows that some of the CGF's member companies place an increasing focus on supporting better nutrition, personal care and hygiene to improve their consumers' overall lifestyles.
The most recent Consumer Goods Forum Health and Wellness Progress Report highlights the significant improvements made within the industry last year in this regard.
CGF members developed and adapted 22,500 products that support healthier diets. They partnered with 47,000 school communities worldwide to educate children and teenagers about healthier diets and lifestyles. Over 91 million consumers were encouraged to make different lifestyle choices trough members' education programmes.
Feedback from 63 of the leading consumer goods retailers and manufacturers is included in the report. Out of those 63, 29 are food and drink manufacturers, 26 retailers, and eight personal-care-product manufacturers.
The report outlines how far members have come in implementing CGF's 2011 Health and Wellness resolutions, which commit members to provide their consumers with choices that will empower them to lead healthier lives, provide transparent information that will help consumers to make informed food choices, and use educational programmes to hep raise consumer awareness on health and wellness.
Some 95 per cent of CGF members have implemented new guidelines, 97 per cent have established programmes based on one or more of CGF's policies, and 79 per cent of members have started communicating publicly about at least one policy.
Peter Freedman, managing director of the Consumer Goods Forum, commented, "Retailers and manufacturers have made a good start in helping consumers live healthier lives, but the scale of the challenge facing humanity keeps getting bigger. The Consumer Goods Forum is uniquely positioned to help our members rise to that challenge by working collaboratively and helping drive positive actions globally.”
