French food company Groupe Avril has announced that it has acquired German lecithins and phospholipids maker Lecico.
The general manager of the Avril OIS platform, Olivier Tillous-Borde, said the deal positions the group as a "global player" in GMO-free lecithins.
Market Positioning
Tillous-Borde added, "Synergies with our existing ingredients business are numerous and our market position will be stronger.
"In particular, Avril will support Lecico in developing its position in the market for high-quality organic lecithins. We look forward to welcoming the Lecico team to the Avril Group. "
The acquisition is a new step in the group's efforts to structure and develop its lecithin, and specialty ingredients businesses.
In 2018, it launched two sunflower lecithin units in France and Romania, and acquired Novastell, a French specialty ingredients maker.
Wider Avenues
Director of sales and commercial ingredients development at Avril OIS, Valérie Barrois, said, "Since the acquisition of Novastell by Avril, our team has significantly expanded the range of natural ingredients and solutions we can offer our customers in Nutrition and Nutraceutical.
"With the integration of Lecico, we now also offer milk phospholipids, unique polar lipids intended primarily for infant nutrition, and also for immune and anti-inflammatory purposes in adult nutrition."
Lecithin is used industrially in manufacturing food items that require emulsifiers.
