Italian Gluten-Free Market Sees 22% Growth

The market for gluten-free products in Italy grew by 22% last year, reaching a turnover of €175 million.

The findings come from a study commissioned by Gluten Free Expo, taking place from 18 to 21 November in Rimini.

One of the fastest-growing segments in gluten free is the Biscuits category, the study found, which saw a 24.9% rise last year.

The study polled Italian companies on the types of gluten-free products they produce, with gluten-free cakes and sweets topping the list with 28.3%.

Pasta placed second (21.3%), followed by bread and dairy products (15%), snacks (11%), meat and poultry (10.2%), ice cream and frozen products (7.9%), flour (6.3%) and breakfast cereals (2.4%).
