KYLATT extra virgin oil from Molí de Alcanó, part of Grupo Fruits de Ponent, has been awarded the 'Gourmet Gold' medal by the Agency for the Valorisation of Agricultural Products (AVPA), based in Paris, France.
In a ceremony broadcast via YouTube due to the ongoing health crisis, AVPA announced the winning oils in the different categories last Thursday.
KYLATT-L'Or de Ponent, bearing the seal of the Les Garrigues Protected Designation of Origin, received the Golden Gourmet medal in the 'Light Mature' oils category, which saw it compete alongside oils from the main producing countries: Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Algeria, France and Morocco.
A jury made up of expert tasters, gourmets and producers selected this Molino de Alcanó oil – an extra virgin oil made from 100% arbequina olives – for its balance between the different organoleptic virtues.
KYLATT oil was produced from a selection of arbequina olives sourced from the fields of the company's agricultural partners in Alcanó.
A careful production process followed, in which Michelin Star chef Oriol Ivern, from the Hisop restaurant in Barcelona, also took part, making the initial tastings and advising Molí de Alcanó in order to find the right balance.
In this year's edition of the AVPA competition – which in previous editions was held at the Mayor's Office in Paris – more than 300 oil samples from all over the world participated. It is considered one of the main competitions at international level to highlight top quality oils.
Molí de Alcanó, which is part of the Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group, has a network of producer members and forms part of the Les Garrigues Protected Designation of Origin.
