Labeyrie, the French maker of luxury foods, has unveiled its new range of savoury goods.
The firm specialises in foods normally served as apetisers, such as foie gras and smoked salmon, but after very strong growth in 2014 (duck liver pâté sales volumes were up 19.3 per cent during the Christmas period in France), it is broadening its horizons: the new array of pre-mademaincourse dishes includes duck, poulet comté, and darns of smoked salmon with sesame seeds.
Jacques Trottier, the director general of Labeyrie, says that the new gourmet meal line is intended to attract "a new portion of the public."
"Part of their appeal is their [easy-to-cook] functionality," he added.
The company, founded in 1946, has always marketed itself as one of high-end gastronomy.
It owns Blini, Delpierre, Labeyrie Traiteur Surgelés, le Traiteur Grec, as well as the British firms Farne of Scotland and Lyons Seafoods.
