Migros Ostschweiz Reports Increased Supermarket Sales

Migros' eastern Switzerland operations have reported a combined turnover of CHF2.38 billion in 2016, an increase in revenue of 0.2% compared to 2015, despite average price reductions in the last year of more than 0.5%.

Migros Ostschweiz supermarkets reported sales of CHF1.84 billion, an equal increase of 0.2% compared to the previous year. Its leisure facilities saw a sales increase of more than 7% and its catering companies recorded an increase of around 6.5%, compared to the previous year.

The Migros DIY chain 'Do it + Garden'- and the MElectronics-, Micasa-, OBI-, SportXX and Outlet stores reported a decline in sales, of more than 4%.

Peter Diethelm, managing director of Migros Ostschweiz, commented, "Our new stores have proved very popular among our customers. We will continue to expand our branch network in the coming years (..), focusing on regional and organic products, which continue to be very popular, through our 'Aus der Region. Für die Region' (From the Region. For the Region) programme."
