In a new partnership with Swisscontact, Cargill and Wahana Visi Indonesia, Mondelez International has announced it has completed the first phase of an extended Cocoa Life programme in Southeast Sulawesi (Indonesia).
The three-year programme will support women and young people in particular and aims to reach 6,000 cocoa farmers and at least 16,000 people across the Sulawesian communities.
In the first phase, 'community action plans' (CAP's) and structures were created, to help source government funding. In addition, training was provided to address social issues.
"Cocoa Life is taking root in Indonesia because it's focused on farmers," said Andi Sitti Asmayanti, Director of Cocoa Life for Southeast Asia. (...) Together with our partners and the Indonesian government, we're helping cocoa-farming families create the kind of communities they want to live in, and (we are) inspiring the next generation."
The Cocoa Life programme was developed as part of a 'Green Prosperity-Sustainable Cocoa Production Program' initiative, launched in 2015 by Swisscontact, in collaboration with Millennium Challenge Account-Indonesia.
