Italian dairy firm Centrale del Latte d'Italia has introduced a new eco-friendly packaging for its Mukki branded milk.
Selezione Mugello milk is the first to receive the new packaging, in line with the positioning of the product as environmentally friendly, both in terms of quality and the environmental sustainability of the production chain.
Renewable Resources
The bottle is produced from renewable resources made from paper sourced from responsibly-managed forests, as well as organic polymers originating from 100% certified sugar cane production in Brazil, joined together in very thin sheets.
The vegetable-based polymers have the same look and functionality as traditional plastic, but are ecologically sustainable.
Over the coming months, the new packaging will be rolled out to other Mukki products.
As a result of the new packaging, Mukki has been able to reduce the environmental impact of the product to 19g CO2-eq per litre.
Environmental Certification
Mukki is a market leader in Italy’s Tuscany region with a market share of over 42%.
It was the first regional producer to obtain ISO 14000 certification in 2008, which ensures all production activities are carried out in full respect of the environment and in compliance with regulations.
Five years ago, Selezione Mugello milk obtained an Environmental Product Declaration, while analysis of the company’s carbon footprint is currently underway.
