Global food giant Nestlé has announced it will bring back Orange Smarties this spring, exclusively in Ireland and the UK.
The food giant will release the orange-flavoured Smarties in a limited edition hexatube packaging for British retailer Asda, and across wholesale and convenience stores.
It is also set to introduce an Easter egg, which features an orange-flavoured milk chocolate egg filled with Orange Smarties Mini Eggs.
Orange Smarties are the only variety of Smarties sweets that have their own distinct flavour. Their shell is infused with natural orange oil to give it the distinctive taste, according to Nestlé.
Manufacturing Challenge
“Orange Smarties are slightly more difficult to manufacture in high volume, given the different process and recipe required to get that orange-y taste but our experts have been hard at work to make it happen and we are really pleased that we can offer them again this spring,” said Alex Gonnella, marketing director for Nestlé’s UK confectionery business.
The novelty sweet treat was introduced for the first time last year and has since become Nestlé’s number one consumer request, according to the company.
“People love their distinctive flavour,” said Gonnella. “The giant tubes launched last autumn were sold out in some stores within a few weeks from the launch and we have been inundated with requests from people all over the country asking us whether they could still get hold of some.”
