Nestlé Côte d’Ivoire has donated two ventilators to help the country in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ventilators were handed over to the country’s health and public hygiene minister, Dr Eugène Aka Aouélé by the Swiss ambassador to Ivory Coast, Anne Lugon-Moulin and the Nestlé Côte d'Ivoire CEO, Thomas Caso.
The donation will complement the 18 ventilators ordered by the Ivory Coast government in addition to the four already available, Nestlé added.
Dr Patricia Amondji, Dr Marie-Claude Kouassi and Dr Eric Bouaffon of Nestlé Côte d'Ivoire proposed the idea to offer a donation to the Infectious and Tropical Disease Service of the Treichville University Hospital, which handling COVID-19 patients.
Dr Amondji, commented, “As doctors, we are convinced that the battle against COVID-19 can only be won if we minimise transmissions and provide doctors with medical and personal protective equipment to enable them to treat severe cases, especially people with underlying conditions who need to be assisted by ventilators to stay alive.”
The Treichville COVID-19 unit has offered 10 automatic hospital beds, gowns and surgical masks to 15 care units, 14 screening facilities and three confinement centres in the country to manage the pandemic.
