Nestlé has announced that it has launched plant-based burgers and grounds in the United States and Switzerland.
The products cook and look like raw meat, and are juicy and meat-like in taste and texture.
The ingredients and recipes used in the new range cater to local tastes, Nestlé said.
The new range has been rolled out days after the food giant announced its ambition to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
'Awesome' Burger
In the United States, which is Nestlé's biggest market, the products have been launched by Sweet Earth under the brands Awesome Burger and Awesome Grounds.
Both products, made of yellow pea protein, replicate the taste and texture of beef.
The grounds can be used for preparing meals and sides, such as meatballs and tacos.
In 2017, Nestlé acquired Sweet Earth, which boasts of a portfolio of more than 60 plant-based products.
Expansion
Elsewhere in Switzerland, the company has added plant-based burgers and mince to its Garden Gourmet range.
The Incredible Burger is made of soy and wheat protein, while the Incredible Mince contains soy protein.
Both products also comprise natural plant extracts like beetroot, carrot, and bell pepper, vegetable fats, and coconut oil.
The mince, with its ground beef-like texture, can be reshaped into meatballs or skewers and seasoned to taste, Nestlé added.
