Nestlé Waters' Henniez Plant To Undergo CHF25m Revamp

Nestlé Waters Switzerland will invest in a CHF 25 million (€21 million) revamp of its Henniez bottling facilities in the industrial zone of Treize Cantons near the village of Henniez, the company announced Monday.

The refurbishment, dubbed H2Orizon 2020, will replace two older mineral water glass bottling lines with one modernised line for the brand. It will also create a new production facility for juices and flavoured beverages.

Efficiency Through Amalgamation

‘Production at Henniez will become more flexible and innovative in order to meet current and future consumer trends,’ the Swiss bottled water maker said. It’s the company's largest investment ever made in the bottling plant, with total investment amounting to CHF 48 million (€40.2 million).

The amalgamation of a secondary site in the village of Henniez will improve the current traffic overload in the centre, it said. By early 2020, the village site will be closed.

Nestlé Waters Switzerland said there will be no dismissals due to the site closure, and that it will maintain its workforce of 270 people. The project will be completed between 2019 and 2020.

Henniez Water Resource Stewardship

The Henniez brand is sourced from protected nature reserve La Broye, in the French-speaking area of the country, near Lausanne. The company said that by modernising the facility, it will save 25,000 cubic metres of water annually.

The multinational has pledged to protect more than 2,400 hectares around the Henniez water source via the ECO-Broye water stewardship initiative, which involves farmers, local authorities and industry in an effort to safeguard local water resources and promote biodiversity.

Preparing For Future Development

"Thanks to this investment, we reinforce the Henniez production site and equip it for the future development of our strong brands," the general director of Nestlé Waters Switzerland, Alessandro Rigoni, commented.

"We have established an exemplary partnership with the most important actors of the region, notable with the ECO-Broye environmental project, which protects Henniez’ water resources. And we will continue on this path in the future."

Nestlé Waters operates 95 production sites in 34 countries. In February, it announced the introduction of a new bottle made entirely from recycled plastic for its Nestlé Pure Life water brand.
