The nominees have been announced for the 2018 edition of the M.A.D.E. Awards, which will be presented at M.A.D.E., taking place on 20-21 March in Paris Porte de Versailles.
The Awards have been develop to examine trends and showcase innovative product developments that tap into consumer needs.
Awards will be presented across six categories, which take into account the research and development factors that go into product development, rather than simply focus on marketing trends.
The six categories include Process Innovation; Packaging Innovation; Recipe/Formulation/Ingredient Innovation; Breakthrough Innovation, Marketing/Positioning/Storytelling Innovation; and Open Innovation/Co-Creation.
Meet The Nominees
In the Process Innovation category, nominees for the M.A.D.E. Awards include fresh egg waffles with a hazlenut-chocolate filling; from Biscuits Poult; ready-to-eat cooked vegetables from Le Bontà; compostable, biodegradable coffee capsules from Segafredo Zanetti France and a digital communication platform from We Pub.
The Packaging Innovation category features a ramekin fondant product from Les Mille Sources; an 'Orge mix' of grains and legumes from Pedon; organically-sourced, compostable packaging film from Servo Artpack; and an anti-slip sleeve from Stratus Packaging.
In Recipe/Formulation/Ingredient Innovation, the nominees include a range of healthy sauces from Christian Potier; stuffed mussels from Escal; a risotto-style semolina of cauliflower, coral lentils and beans from Gelagri; bite-sized smoked fish appetisers from Meralliance; and ultra-glossy icing from RUF Lebensmittelwerk KG.
The Breakthrough Innovation category features Hasselback potatoes from City Gourmande; a fruit pie filling from Greenyard Frozen France; eggs sourced from a slaughter-free hen production facility, Poulehouse; and Tagmyfood, a digital device that informs consumers about the origin of their products.
In the Marketing/Positioning/Storytelling Innovation category, nominees include a 100% French, fair-trade pasta from Alpina Savoie; red lentil pasta from Dalla Costa Alimentare; a range of le parfait jars from Mere Lalie and a bread and Camembert serving solution from Diversi Foods.
Lastly, the Open Innovation/Co-Creation category features a range of iced cocktails from Lacrem, S.A.; a range of vegetable beverages from LDSH; flat tea beverages from around the world from Refresco; and a customised range of gluten-free and allergen free snacks from Yourbarfactory.
Judging Process
The 25 nominees for this year's M.A.D.E. Awards have been drawn from a selection of 142 product innovations, with the nominations panel meeting on 1 February to determine the candidates in each category.
A final judging panel, comprised of professionals from the sector and journalists from specialist press outlets, will meet before the event to select the winner in each category, as well as determine the 'Best of M.A.D.E.' award, which will be presented to the best innovation of all.
The awards will be presented at a dedicated ceremony taking place at 6pm on 20 March, in the M.A.D.E. TV studio. Attendees to the show will also be able to sample the winning products at the M.A.D.E. Your Cuisine Lab following the awards, with chefs Jean-Marie Baudic and Pierre Lortie on hand to prepare samples.
