Sales of organic or ‘bio’ products have seen a 30% rise this year, according to a study carried out by online store Getbio.ro.
Romania Insider reported that food products, cosmetics, food supplements and detergents are among the biggest selling organic products on the Romanian market.
Growth Potential
According to Getbio.ro, the organic/ bio market is valued at around €20 million, with high growth potential recorded in the market.
Organic product sales account for between 2% and 3.5% of total food sales, the study found. Retailers have embraced the category, presenting dedicated areas for organic produce in-store.
Germany has the highest organic sales in Europe in value terms (around €9.5 million), however Denmark has the highest percentage of organic sales as a percentage of overall food sales, of 9.4%, Romania Insider reported.
