Schreiber Buys Senoble's Slovak Dairy Plant

American dairy firm Schreiber Foods acquired the largest Slovak dairy located in the town of Zvolen, from French company Senoble.

Besides the purchase of the Slovak facility, Schreiber Foods is expanding its European presence with the acquisition of two more dairies, located in Noblejas and Talavera de la Reina in Spain.

Apart from its own brand, Zvolenský, the Slovak yogurt-maker also manufactures private-label dairy products. Zvolenský yogurt is the second best-selling brand in Slovakia. Having initially started only with yogurt, the factory extended its portfolio to desserts and, in 2010, to yogurt drinks and fermented milk.

"This acquisition enables our company to strengthen our presence in European markets while bolstering relations with our strategic trade partners," said Francois Salamon of Schreiber Foods.

Announced in January, the purchase was recently okayed by competition authorities.

Schreiber Foods, owned by its employees and headquartered in Wisconsin (USA), has an annual turnover exceeding $5 billion. Schreiber has over 7,000 employees and has production facilities and distribution centres in Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, India, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay and the United States.

In March 2014, the dairy firm purchased a Danone factory in the Canary Islands, currently supplying Mercadona supermarkets in the region.
