Upmarket supermarket chain Waitrose contributed £3.2 million in 2015 to charities supported by the Prince of Wales under the Duchy Originals partnership.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, latest company accounts for Duchy Originals, for the year ending 31 March, 2015, revealed that the supermarket paid the company £3.2million for the exclusive licence to sell Duchy Originals products in its shops, online and through third-parties.
Launched in 1992 by the Prince of Wales, the Duchy Originals organic range includes more than 300 products from vegetables and milk to ales and biscuits.
Every Duchy Organic product has to meet Soil Association - or comparable - organic standards. Produce and grains must be grown without reliance on artificial chemicals or fertilisers. Animals must be raised on an organic diet without the routine use of antibiotics.
According to Waitrose, Duchy Organic is its flagship organic brand. "Created from a groundbreaking partnership between Duchy Originals and Waitrose, it is built on the shared principles of Good Food, Good Farming, and Good Causes set out in our Good Food Charter."
The deal between Duchy Originals and Waitrose was struck five years ago.
