Aldi Partners With Instacart On US Grocery Delivery

Discount retailer Aldi has partnered with American company Instacart to delivery groceries to customers in the United States.

Customers will be able to purchase items online from their local Aldi store, which will be delivered by Instacart in as little as an hour, reports the Financial Times.

The new delivery programme will begin in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Dallas this month, "with potential for future expansion", according to Instacart spokesperson Dacyl Armendariz.

Growing Competition

Instacart already has grocery delivery partnerships with US retailers such as Wegmans, Publix, and Ahold Delhaize, but is looking to expand its footprint as companies aim to compete with online retail giant Amazon.

Aldi operates a network of 1,700 stores in 35 states across the US, but recently announced a $3.4 billion expansion plan with the goal of having 2,500 stores by the end of 2022.

Its European rival Lidl entered the US market in June, and plans to have 100 stores along the east coast by summer 2018.
