AmazonFresh, the internet retailer's online grocery delivery service, has been launched in Berlin, Germany.
"We are starting today with AmazonFresh in parts of Berlin and Potsdam," said Florian Baumgartner, head of the online service in Germany, as reported in Der Tagesspiegel.
"Customers can complete their entire week's shopping online," he added. "I am sure that we offer good and competitive prices."
Logistics
Amazon Prime members can avail of unlimited grocery deliveries for €9.99 extra per month, when they make a minimum order of €40. The online supermarket will offer 85,000 products, featuring a wide selection of fresh food, frozen products and beverages, and also has an agreement with several German companies to sell their brands, including supermarket chain Tegut.
The products are stored in a depot in the Berlin district of Tegel, and will be delivered to customers by German logistics company Deutsche Post DHL.
Expansion
Amazon first launched its fresh food delivery service in Seattle in 2007, before expanding to other cities in the United States.
Last year the service began operations in London and it was also launched in Japan last week.
Rumours of AmazonFresh being in talks with Deutsche Post's package service DHL were reported in March.
