Carrefour Board Set To Nominate Bompard As New CEO

Further to reports last week, French supermarket retailer Carrefour is set to nominate Alexandre Bompard, chief executive of consumer-electronics retailer Fnac Darty, as its new CEO at the end of this week or early next week.

The board is set to meet on Friday 9 June or Monday 12 June, and, according to Reuters, an announcement could be made on Monday, at the latest.

Bompard has been chief executive of Fnac since January 2011, and shares of the company have nearly tripled in value in its stock-market listing in 2013.

Carrefour has been searching for a successor to Georges Plassat, whose term as chief executive expires in May 2018.

Plassat Exit

Plassat, now 68, became the CEO of Carrefour in 2012, replacing Lars Olofsson.

After the board announced that it raised its CEO age barrier from 65 to 70, it was speculated that Plassat could remain in term until 2020.

In 2015, his contract was extended for another three years, after the board voted by 89% in favour of the extension.
