French retailer Carrefour has announced that it is acquiring a 17% stake in online clothing retailer Showroomprivé for around €79 million.
The supermarket giant that the new partnership will help both groups to develop a leading omni-channel offering, covering areas such as commercial, marketing, logistics and data.
"This partnership is a new step in the acceleration of our digital strategy, in an omni-channel approach," said Alexandre Bompard, Carrefour CEO.
"It also allows Carrefour to enter the online private sales market and strengthen its offering. I am convinced of the quality of Showroomprivé's management and the strong potential resulting from the operational cooperation between our two groups.”
E-Commerce Growth
Showroomprivé offers fashion goods from nearly 2,000 brand partners on its website and mobile app, and has over 28 million members in France and in eight other European markets.
In 2016, the business recorded turnover of more than €750 million, but says that it will be able to expand on that through the new deal with Carrefour.
The supermarket giant will acquire the share capital from Conforama, a subsidiary of the Steinhoff group, which is currently undergoing an accounting investigation.
