UK retailer The Co-operative has appointed Jo Whitfield as the new CEO of its food business.
Whitfield has been acting as the interim food boss since Steve Murrells left the position to become Group CEO in February. She previously held several roles in Asda, before joining the Co-op in 2016 as food finance director.
Continued Progress
“It’s a great honour and privilege to become CEO at such an exciting time for Co-op Food and the Co-op as a whole,” said Whitfield.
“While our market continues to be highly competitive, it is also clear that our focus on delivering a high quality shopping experience, built around value, convenience and provenance is working for our members and customers. My role is to ensure that we continue to deliver on the great progress we’ve made over the past few years and I’m excited by that challenge.”
The Co-op says that its food business has 'maintained a strong performance' under Whitfield's directions so far, with the company's announcement in May that it will become the first national retailer to sell only 100% British meat.
