Spanish retail group DIA has introduced a new supermarket concept to suburban areas in Portugal called Minipreço Family.
The Minipreço Family stores will feature redesigned fresh produce, bakery and wine concepts, as well as entirely new sections such as fish and butcher counters, cafeterias and a new food-to-go offering.
Minipreço Family offers 20 per cent more products, both private label as well as brands, than DIA's other stores in Portugal.
Last year, the Spanish group announced that half of the 346 Minipreço stores in Portugal will change image and offer different services.
In 2015, DIA started the rollout of new neighbourhood stores under the Minipreço banner, with a stronger focus on fresh products. So far, seven stores have been opened, with four located in the Greater Lisbon area, and one each in Algarve, Alentejo and Braga.
