2015 Champagne Sales Improve By 2 to 3 Per Cent

Sales of champagne in terms of volume went up on a like-for-like basis during 2015 by between two and three per cent, marking the luxury wine’s finest performance since its record-smashing 2007, Reuters reports.

Approximately 312 million bottles of champagne were purchased throughout the year, with an improvement in sales in hypermarkets in France and elsewhere. Revenue generated stood at €4.7 billion.

A key component of this growth was an improvement in sales figures for rosé champagnes in the Japanese and US markets. Figures also suggest that demand for vintage and higher-priced champagnes is growing overall.

Bruno Paillard, chief executive of leading champagne house Lanson BCC, commented, “France is on a recovery path. Consumption stabilised.”
