AB InBev UK To Display Calories On 80% Of Beer Packaging

AB InBev UK has confirmed its plans to display calorie information on 80 per cent of its EU beer packaging by the end of 2017, following lobbying within the European Parliament, TheDrinksBusiness.com reports.

Though it is not currently a legal requisite to display calorie information on beer packaging in Europe, it is anticipated that it will become so in the next number of years. Diageo has also committed to a similar undertaking.

AB InBev UK’s legal and corporate affairs director, Anna Tolley, said that consumers are increasingly “getting savvier about their daily calorie consumption and are actively looking at nutritional information”.

A study carried out by Ipsos MORI found that 35 per cent of Europeans now pay attention to the calories in products, and that figure is 50 per cent of those aged 18 to 29.

“While the EU continues to discuss the best way forward for nutritional labelling in our industry, we want to give consumers the information they need at their fingertips to make well-informed choices and enjoy our products responsibly,” added Tolley.
