Aldi has been named the best supermarket in which to purchase wine in the UK for the third year running, at the annual Drinks Retailing Awards.
Morrisons claimed the prize of Multiple Spirits Retailer of the Year, while Sainsbury’s was 2016’s Multiple Beer Retailer of the Year. Waitrose was named the Multiple Champagne Retailer of the Year.
Aldi, as well as winning the Multiple Wine Retailer of the Year award, also collected the Drinks Buying Team of the Year accolade.
Joint managing director of buying at Aldi, Tony Baines, told The Sun, “We’re elated our wine range has been recognised once again by such a respected awarding body.
“To receive this accolade is a testament to the work of our talented buyers and dedicated suppliers who work tirelessly to deliver exceptional quality products at an unbeatable price.”
Aldi UK recently overtook the Co-op to become the fifth-biggest supermarket chain in Britain, while its online wine portal sold more than two million bottles during its first year in operation.
