Basque Country And Andalucía The Best-Performing Spanish Wine Regions

The Basque Country and Andalucía experienced the biggest growth in wine exports of all Spanish regions during the first quarter of 2016.

According to GranConsumo.tv, the Basque Country saw the biggest growth in sales (€4.7 million), while Andalucía saw the biggest increase in volume (1.4 million litres). These figures were obtained from the Spanish Observatory of the Wine Market (OeMv).

Spanish wine exports experienced a bigger drop in volume (-10.9 per cent) than in sales (-0.6 per cent), due to an increase in the average price per unit. The Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Comunidad Valenciana and Murcia regions saw their volumes fall the most, and are also the lower-priced regions.

According to the organisation, the regions that focused on added value, such as the Basque Country and Navarra, saw more positive results. Castilla-La Mancha continues to lead exports, followed by Catalonia and Rioja in sales, and by Comunidad Valencia in volume.
