Danish brewer Carlsberg has announced the appointment of João Abecasis as the new executive vice president of its Asian business, effective 1 September.
Abecasis is an experienced professional, who joined the company in 2011 and served in various roles, including CCO and CEO of Super Bock Portugal.
He also held the role of vice-president of challenger markets in the WE region, interim managing director of Carlsberg Denmark and managing director of Kronenbourg, France.
Abecasis will be based in Hong Kong, the brewer noted.
Commercial Strategy
Currently, he serves as the chief commercial officer of Carlsberg. He took up the position in 2019 and has been instrumental in leading the brand's commercial strategy.
He contributed to the group's SAIL’27 strategy, which lists Asia as an important region and a significant factor in achieving the company's future targets.
SAIL’27 is Carlsberg's five-year strategy built around the company's vision of brewing for a better today and tomorrow, as well as establishing itself as a leading company in the category across markets in which it operates.
Elsewhere, Søren Brinck, EVP Group Strategy, will serve as acting interim chief commercial officer in addition to his current responsibilities.
The Danish brewer has reported second-quarter revenue below expectations as earnings were hit by higher commodity and energy prices despite a recovery of sales in bars and restaurants.
Carlsberg stuck to its full-year guidance, after it earlier this month lifted its forecast for organic profit to 'high single-digit-percentage' growth.
