Europe’s biggest wine producer by volume, the Castel Group, has rolled out its first Crémant de Bordeaux variety under its label Malesan.
This brand has up until this point been used only for non-sparkling wines, both red and white. The drinks company hopes to sell 200,000 bottles of the Crémant in its first year, and a million bottles in 2019, primarily through France’s hypermarket and supermarket channels.
Expansion plans for the range will also see its distribution rolled out on an international scale, with a longer-term goal of selling between 2 million and 2.5 million bottles per year in mind, according to La Tribune Bordeaux.
The product was launched officially last month at Castel’s Oenoalliance site in Beychac-et-Caillau, which itself has a turnover of €50 million.
