Wine producer Castel has created several new products designed to capitalise on the burgeoning demand in Europe for aperitif and rosé wines, according to thedrinksbusiness.com.
One of these will be a crémant (a sparkling wine made using the methods used to create champagnes).
Alain Castel, the general manager of Castel, said, “At Castel we would like to be recognised by consumers as a specialist in still wine and sparkling wine. Secondly, Castel comes from Bordeaux so it is normal that the Castel family has a Crémant de Bordeaux.”
The drinks-maker has also announced the production of its new brand iSK, a nine-per-cent ABV wine designed to be had as an aperitif, which is available as both a white and a rosé.
The labels of the “dry and fruity” beverages turn blue when they have been chilled to the optimum degree. Castel’s communications manager, France Delmond, commented, “The growth of rosé in France is just incredible: ten years ago rosé was about 10 per cent of the market and white was 15 per cent; now rosé is 25 per cent of the market.” Rosé popularity in the UK is also subject to powerful growth at present.
The final major addition to the Castel portfolio is Giola Spritz, a range of wines available in flavours such as cherry and Limoncello, a style of wine traditionally associated with Italy.
