Champagne Sales Dip As UK Sparkling-Wine Consumption Rises 17%

In the UK, champagne has conceded market share as a direct result of British wine’s rise in popularity, according to figures supplied by Vivino.

Whereas in the summer of 2015, the French beverage commanded a 55.12% hold on the sparkling-wine sector, its share of the market for the same period this year was 51.57%. July 2016 witnessed a like-for-like fall in champagne consumption of about 10%.

By comparison, UK-made sparkling wine enjoyed a 17% boost in consumption over the summer of 2016.

Such findings reflect the vast potential for growth to which British-made wine is subject.
