Though the market for grand-distribution champagne in France has been in decline in recent years, 2014 saw growth in domestic sales volumes for many houses.
Nicolas Feuillatte, for example, improved in this regard by 3.95 per cent during the period in question, while Rothschild boosted its sales volumes by five per cent.
Mumm was the most impressive, improving by eight per cent.
Ten years ago in France about 60 million bottles of champagne were sold through grand-distribution channels, but 2014 only saw the sale of 45.5 million.
In spite of this, sales of the sparkling white wine generated €887.5 million – up by 1.5 per cent on 2013.
