The number of Portuguese consumers drinking cider has increased by 56% since 2015, with one in five now claiming to consume the beverage, according to a study by Grupo Marktest.
However, the study also found that cider consumption is highly age-segmented, with more than half of its consumers under the age of 35.
Some 44.3% of young people aged 15-24 said that they had consumed cider in the last 12 months, as well as 31.9% people aged 25-34. That rate drops to 6.9% among people over the age of 64.
The data also shows that Sommersby, a cider brand from Danish brewing company Carlsberg, is the most popular cider brand in Portugal.
