Artisan sloe gin maker Demijohn has been crowned Sloe Ginster World Champion for the second year running.
Sloe berries – the bitter fruit of the blackthorn bush - are traditionally harvested after the first frost of the season.
Demijohn's winning sloe gin was described by judge and former world champion Dave Bennett as “not too sweet, not too dry and a perfect drink for the winter”.
Demijohn managing director Angus Ferguson recommended that sloe gin makers “never infuse for less than 10 months to ensure a rich and deep flavour.”
Demijohn, which has outlets in the UK, also ships its liqueurs worldwide.
Curiously Kentish won the award for Best Liqueur with its Sloe Vodka. The silver medal went to Master of Malt's Bath Tub Gin while artisan sloe gin maker Sloe Seducation won bronze.
