Diageo, the world's largest, most successful drinks company, has confirmed it is in talks to buy a stake in United Spirits Ltd. The world's largest distiller by volume, United Spirits sells 122 million cases per year globally, and is a huge force in its native Indian market.
The group has 22 millionaire spirits brands, with a portfolio including Whyte & Mackay, Dalmore whisky, JURA whisky and Bouvet Ladubay. Billionaire chairman Vijay Mallya, owns some 28 per cent of the company. (25 Sept)
