Danish brand Stauning whisky, which Diageo holds a minority stake-hold, is set to become a multinational brand following a £10 million investment, thedrinksbusiness.com reports.
The move will allow the production of the whisky to increase exponentially – to 50 times the 15,000 litres made per year at present.
At the 2014 World Whisky Awards, Stauning won prizes for, respectively, Best European Single Malt (under 12 years old) and Best European Rye (under 7 years).
Diageo’s global head of premium core spirits, David Gates, said, “In Stauning, I believe we have found a company defined by visionary founders and an exceptional whisky, with a brilliant story to tell.”
