Edeka Subsidiary 'Ortenauer Weinkeller' Wins Honorary Award

The Ortenauer Weinkeller, a subsidiary of the German supermarket cooperative Edeka, has won the 'Ehrenpreis des Badischen Weinbauverbands' - or, 'Honorary Award of the Baden Wine Growers' Association' - at the Regional Wine and Champagne Awards in Baden (Germany).

For the second year running, two of the Weinkeller's dry red wines were among the 'Top 10' wines in Baden.

"We are very proud of this great result and of the top wines from our wine cellar. We owe this mainly to our cellar master, Herbert Agradetti and his team," said Duschan Gert, manager of the Ortenau Weinkeller.

To be considered for an award, the wines need to pass a strict quality test first and score three points to be given a 'quality mark'. Twenty judges then taste the wines, using a 100-point system to select the the winners.

The Ortenauer Weinkeller was founded in the 1950's and has won a total of 64 gold and five silver medals. In 2015, the company produced around 3.25 million bottles of wine, exclusively for Edeka.
