Franprix, subsidiary of Group Casino, has launched two new private label champagnes to boost its drink sales in the run-up to Christmas, lsa-conso.fr reports.
These are Charles Valhenry Cuvée Spéciale Rosé, and Charles Valhenry Cuvée Spéciale Brut. The former, a blend of Pinot Noir (55 per cent), Chardonnay (25 per cent) and Pinot Meunier (20 per cent), retails at €23.89; the latter, also a blend of these grapes, is priced at €19.99, and is also available in half-bottles (€9.99).
Franprix’s director of drinks, Étienne Delannoy, said, “We decided to renew our collaborative effort with Maison Malard [which supplied it with its 2014 private label champagne, Galucha], a producer renowned for its quality of product.”
Delannoy’s tasting notes state that the Charles Valhenry champagnes are “well-rounded, powerful and elegant,” qualities they derive from “three principal cépages of the region of Champagne.”
