Lanson, the world’s ninth-largest champagne producer, has created its first organic champagne, TheDrinksBusiness.com has reported.
Lanson’s ‘Green Label’ will be produced, at least initially, only on a non-vintage basis. It will be rolled out over the next few months, with an annual production of between 65-70,000 bottles scheduled for release.
All the organic grapes are sourced from Lanson’s own vineyards in the Val-de-Marne, as opposed to being outsourced, which is not an uncommon practice for champagne producers.
The cépage is 50% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Meunier. Its recommended retail price in the UK is £40.
In October of last year, UK supermarket chain Marks & Spencer announced it had commenced stocking Lanson’s Extra Age Brut NV champagne.
