Last year's worldwide sales of Rioja wines have built upon their robust 2013 performance.
Sales volumes during this period were up by 1.3 per cent, reaching approximately 375 million bottles. Furthermore, between 2013 and 2014, exports from the most famous wine-producing region in Spain were up by 3.5 per cent, which – although clearly strong – is slower growth than was achieved between 2012 and 2013.
Accelerating demand for white Rioja wines was a key factor in the sales-volumes figures.
The UK, Germany, the US and Switzerland are still among the essential export destinations for the region.
In Spain, Rioja sales remained consistent in the context of reduced national wine consumption.
