Indian beverages group Kyndal has entered into a joint venture with John Fergus & Co Ltd to establish a new £6.7m malt distillery and bonded warehouse project in Glenrothes, Fife.
The father-daughter team of Kyndal India, which brought Bootz Authentic Dutch grape brandy to India through a joint venture between Amsterdam-based Lucas Bols and Kyndal, plans to have a capacity of about four million litres initially at the Scottish distillery.
The distillery will focus on sales to the Indian, African and Far Eastern markets. The new venture will create 15 jobs as well as generate exports worth a predicted £3.6m to Scotland over the next three years.
“The first phase would be completed in three years that would require about £6.7 million. We have plans to double capacity over the next 10 years depending on the demand across geographies,” said Banerji, managing director, Kyndal India. Scottish Enterprise and its international arm Scottish Development International have been working with the companies on their development plans.
The enterprise company is providing a £240,000 regional selective assistance grant while the Scottish Government’s food processing, marketing and cooperation scheme has put up £1.6m in funding.
