Italian Brewer Produces Blond Beer Using Solar Enegy

Italian brewer Birra Moretti, part of Heineken Group, has unveiled the first blond beer produced solely by renewable energy.

The Baffo d’Oro premium lager, officially presented at the Milan Expo, is entirely produced with energy produced by solar panels in the breweries of Comun Nuovo (Bergamo) and Massafra (Taranto).

On the roofs of the two brewery buildings have been installed photovoltaic systems with over 8,000 solar panels (3,984 in Comun Nuovo and 4,152 in Massafra), capable of generating about 2 GWh per year of renewable energy.

The brewery in Comun Nuovo - the largest in Italy with an annual production capacity of 2.4 million hectoliters - will expect an annual CO2 decrease of 447 tons.
